Drove on into Quebec the next day, everything is soooo french, in the rest of Canada the signs are in both english and french, but here are french only, like being back in France. We met MC, who we had met in Portugal 4 years ago, at her brothers place, where we would leave Izzy parked, and met some more family and friends, great people, really friendly, and we shared a drink with them. From there they gave us a lift into the centre of the city, where MC and Danielle have an apartment, a great spot, everything is in walking distance. The Festival D’ete de Quebec, or FEQ, has just started, going until the 15th, and there are some great acts on, including Jethro Tull, Neil Young, The Foo Fighters, Cyndy Lauper, Air Supply, and America, plus a heap of others I don’t know, and tickets are $110, and that gets you into all the events for the full festival. Great value. Staying at MC and Danielle’s, we can walk to all the venues within about 10 minutes, perfect. We caught up with Chris Kelly, who we had stayed with near Boston, good to see him again too. We spent a lot of time looking around the old city, taking in some museums, a tour of parliament house, and a look at the remains of the old castle, near what is now the hotel that everyone has photos of, the Chateau Frontignac. MC also arranged for us do a zodiac trip on the river, with Yves Cossette, of Excursions Maritime Quebec. He is quite a character, and very knowledgable of the history of the city, and the river. Well worth doing if you are ever in Quebec. Thanks for a great trip, Yves. On the last Sunday, we spent the night in Izzy at MC’s brothers place, which is a fair way out of the city, so we could head off the next morning. We were made more than welcome that night, having a great feed of locally caught trout and a few drinks with Yves and Therese and their family. Thanks for a great night guys, really enjoyed it. I have to say MC and Danielle were fantastic hosts, they made Quebec a city that we really enjoyed, thank you so much for everything. We had heard that the people were not helpful if you couldn’t speak french, but we found the opposite, people everywhere went out of their way to help, and the majority speak at least some english now. Love it when things work out so well.

Back on the road again after a good break. Well, it was a good break from driving, we spent a lot of time walking around the city, and it is built on a hill, so the legs are looking forward to a break from that! We headed down to Montreal, taking the scenic route along the river rather than the highway, quite a nice drive. We were looking for a patisserie around lunch time, but as usual, when you want one we couldn’t find one, so settled with supermarket goodies for lunch. We arrived in Montreal in peak hour, as we usually do, but it wasn’t too bad, and we found the spot on I Overlander we liked, a carpark at a sports ground, and settled in there for the night. We could see the Biodome across the river, it was lit up at night, and changing colours, quite pretty. Around midnight we received a visit from the local Gendarmes informing us that it was a park, and closed at 11.00pm, so we couldn’t be there. We were really nice to them, told them all about our trip, and after they checked our documents they relented and said we could stay the night, but only that night, and would have to leave in the morning. Great, that suited us, so we settled back down and went to sleep.
