13th-18th November
The four of us flew to Las Vegas, where we had booked a unit for a week through time share, so a really nice unit for under $200 for 6 nights, got to be happy with that! We did the usual touristy things in Vegas, but getting tired of going to bed at 2.00am each night, (morning). A 3 day car hire got us out to the Hoover Dam, and then the Grand Canyon. Amazing story of the construction of the dam, diverting the river through the mountain while it was being built, them back again after it was finished. Crossing the border from Nevada to Arizona where the canyon is changes time zones, clocks go forward an hour in Arizona.
We haven’t seen a cloud since we got here, just clear blue skies, but the last couple of days have been really windy, and cold at night, down to about 5 degrees C, with highs around 23 degrees C.

The trip to the canyon was not what we expected, we went to Grand Canyon West, which is not part of the National Park, but run by the Hualapai indians, and contains the Skywalk, a semi-circular walkway with a glass floor that sticks out over the edge of the canyon. The only access is by purchasing a tour ticket, and shuttle buses run to 2 different viewing points along the canyon. Surprisingly there are no guardrails along the edge, and the drop is scary, hundreds of feet straight down. We had left around 9.00am to go to the dam, and them continued on to the canyon after that, so got home around 7.30pm in the dark. (The sun sets here at around 5.00pm at the moment).
