Statue in Budapest, not sure what it means???
21-24 July
The three of us continued along mainly good road to Budapest, a nice easy ride. Lyn did get pulled over by the police, but when they found she only spoke english, and they didn't, they sent her on her way, and focused on the car behind her. We found Bikercamp Hungary on the GPS, booked in, and put up our tents. Lester, who we met at the HU meeting in Bulgaria, and lives in Budapest called around, it was good to catch up with him again. He took Terry to a bike shop to get a filter and some oil for his bike, and we did a service on it in the carpark at Bikercamp. We also did a little maintenance on our bikes while we were stopped for a while. The weather was really hot, about 39 deg C, so we didn't feel like doing too much. Lester gave us a guided tour around the city, where we did a boat cruise along the river, and visited the underground hospital, Heroes Square, the Statue of Liberty, and the Ice Lake.

Our home in Bikercamp, in the middle of the city
Lyn in front of the Houses of Parliament, on the banks of the river.
Lyn and Lester at the underground hospital museum. A really interesting tour, well worth it. This hospital operated secretly during the war, supplies were lowered into it from tanker trucks in the gardens above, pretending to water the gardens, but dropping the supplies down through hidden shafts in the ground.
Another really impressive government building in Budapest, but I can't remember what it is.
Part of Heroes Square
Terry with his potbellied mate, the shine on his belly is from people rubbing it for luck
On our last night in Budapast, Lester took us out for tea, and of course we had to have Hungarian Goulash! Really tasty, a bit different to the way I had had it before. Thanks for your hospitality Lester, we really enjoyed your help and company, I hope we can repay you back in Australia one day.
