After a lot of discussion, we decided to cross back into the US to experience their Independence Day, and their were a few festivities scheduled for Bangor, a reasonable sized city that we could fit into our trip without going too far out of our way. The main road got us to Fredericton, and we turned off down the 3 to Harvey, and across to the border at St Croix. It is a very small crossing, and when we got there we were the only vehicle, so after chatting for a while, the guy wanted to check inside the back, the first time ever we have been checked. We had to surrender some tomatoes and some advocados, buggar, they were really good ones, and expensive in Canada. From there the road was rough until we hit more civilisation, then on down to Bangor for the night, staying at a Walmart car park, again…… It is so much easier to wild camp in Canada. The weather had turned much warmer, and when we stopped at Walmart, it was shorts and no shirt for me in the truck, and still sweating, a real change from a week ago.

Independence day, and there was a parade starting not far from where we were, so we jumped on the bike and rode to the area, then found a shady spot to watch it go past. Lots of flag waving, with the services well represented, but also the local politicians running around kissing babies and taking selfies with bystanders, all a bit tacky I thought. Lyn wasn’t feeling the best, so we decided to skip the fireworks here, and hit the road towards Quebec, as it would be a long haul if we tried to do it all in 1 day tomorrow. There was a small town about half way which had fire works, so we thought we’d head for it and watch them there, but we got there earlier than we thought, so fuelled up, and kept going. We hadn’t intended on crossing the border today, but suddenly we were there, so went on through, and slept in a gravel pit beside the road for the night. Nice and quiet, very dark, and there were some fireflies about, made for a nice night, and they were a good substitute for the fireworks.

There was 5 or 6 of these mini semi's roaring up and down the road in the parade, based on a ride on mower I think, pretty cool.
Quite a few vets on bikes in the parade as well
